Time seems to be dilating in this city. I left the house at 15:20 and took the long route to the city center. I stopped near the market to ponder the desolate view of the square where merchants had abandoned their stalls for the weekend. It looked the same as in my childhood memories. It's Christmas today. The streets are empty. I enjoy it better like this. The city center of this town has a large electronic clock that shows the time, date, and temperature. To my surprise, It showed 15:55. I walked, wondering where I could go next. I crossed the main boulevard and entered the maze of streets of a residential district where searching for a house where I used to play computer games 20 years ago. Internet cafes were cool back then. On any day of the week, you'd find a bunch of youngsters playing counter strike and delta force or others chatting on Mirc or yahoo messenger or browsing obscure websites. I used to play Quake 3, Unreal Tournament, and sometimes CS. I would usually get my ass kicked at CS.
The next stop on my walk was my high school. Surprisingly everything looked the same, in a slightly worse condition. On some parts of the building, the facade is falling off. The rooftop cover had rusted over the years; the windows looked dirty. Overall the entire building has a slightly desolate vibe. I do a full tour while flashes of memories come into my mind from back in the day when I was studying there — getting bad marks, skipping classes, getting into fights, complotting against teachers, and so on.
I decided to return home. The sun was setting; the sky was amazing, taking nuances of orange and violet, a few clouds stretching across the horizon. I contemplated that view. It contrasted so much with the gray cityscape of my hometown.
