Kyle got in the car. Now this cafe is ruined he thought. The car dinged to put on his seat belt. He clicked it into place. Man he hadn’t seen her in years, it probably would have been good to talk to her. He put his thumb to unbuckle. No not the right time. He needed more time he thought. Does she remember? Besides she’s meeting someone else, no telling who that could be. No, just better to go home. He put the car in reverse, and then saw her walking in. Alice? She was the friend? She was there in the beginning. Suddenly his face flushed. Not today he thought, maybe said out loud this time. Fuck, he needed more time, he needed to finish the record. He was trying to remember everything. The Blue man, the shooting, and that girl from the video. He didn’t want someone else’s memory to mess it up. Like a long string of dominoes he wanted to be the one to knock it down. Fuck he yelled and sighed. He thought lately, but he wasn’t sure that he was having trouble remembering. He thought this was part of the man in the nice suit’s plan. The Blue man’s final goal. To check, he had memorised and old song. Every morning he went though humming then would sing it and see how many words he got. For a week every day he lost one word. Today he lost two. What if it’s going faster, what if they succeed? Fuck, he unbuckled his seat belt and walked as calmly as he could to the cafe door. The sign said Coffee $2.00, Kindness free.
