Debby didn't mind waking up early. When she did she drank coffee slow her husband started before he left even earlier. She drank it black the mug was her grandmothers. She had a few recipes from her that used that exact mug as a measuring cup. Thats why she had it. She inherited it. When her kids were in the house she kept it out of reach so they would never break it. There were close calls, but she still has it in one piece.

She was a waitress at a small diner in a town she should have left a long time ago. This feeling now has faded a little. She tells her friends that she's like a tree now grown roots. She look out in her back yard. A robe was draped around her. The trees all tall, some of those they planted with the kids being born. Something her mom told her to do.

She changed from her robe and into her work outfit, washing her face, and brushing her teeth. She saw herself in the mirror and smiled.

"Welcome to Gas City Diner! What can get for you?"

No one responded.

She looked away.

She put on her rings, and earrings, then grabbed her car keys.
