Max woke up earlier than his alarm. Normally he'd snooze it a few times, but this time he felt so refreshed he got up and started getting ready. It was almost an hour before the normal alarm. A time of day he hadn't been a part of for years. He moved some dirty clothes from the floor to a basket, then stretched. Thinking if he could get up like this every day his life would be better. Not much better, but he felt like those instagram influencers. He looked at his phone messages from Jordan.
"Hey I know we said we wouldn't talk but I miss you."
Damn he thought again. He'd been back and forth for years. Breaking up mostly because she didn't want anything serious, then she'd be back, saying something crazy happened in her life so he shouldn't be mad.
He asked Dave once what he thought.
He replied "Complicated, and not worth it"
At the time this made him mad, like Dave can talk, he doesn't date anyone. But now its been 3 years, and there always right here, stuck.
He sat down, thinking the piles of his laundry unmoving, his teeth not being brushed he put his life on hold just to think. This time He'll be different.
