A knock on the door brought Marc back to reality.
He paused waiting to see if they'd go away. They couldn't see him through the blinds, but he couldn't see who it was.
It was Sammy's dad Kevin.
He was overweight but not in a way that was obvious. Short, stout, but strong. He worked all day.
Cleaning and looking after this Motel.
He said before "Once somethings fixed, something else gets broken. Its never ending cycle. "
He didn't leave. So Marc had to get up.
He thought for two seconds his rent was due. Fuck, he thought.
But no, that wasn't it. Kevin seemed sheepish. Like something was hard to say.
Marc opened the door.
"Hows it going?"
"Hey, uhh, its about Sammy."
Marcs heart beat faster, he thought he left him, but he waited for Kevin to finish before saying anything.
"He told me all you guys do. And uh. Thanks for, uh, looking after him." He adverted his eyes, looking every where but Marcs'.
"It means a lot, to me, to us, I've never seen him so engaged, and uh, excited. Its really nice. I mean I don't really get the whole dancing thing, but he likes it. Just hard to connect you know. "
Marc wasn't ready for these compliments. He just nodded, and smiled.
"Yeah, that was it really, thank you."
"Of course." Marc said, not sure if to end the conversation with his land lord and now dance students father.
"Its my pleasure."
"Alright, have a good night now"
"Yeah, you too."
"Thanks again!"
