"You going anywhere for the break?"
The question snapped Dick out of his day dream.
"What, huh, Alice how are you, uh no just chilling here, yeah, chilling."
"Oh nice a few of us are going up to a cabin for the long weekend. Its not ski season, but you can walk around you know."
Dick couldn't tell if it was an invite or she was trying to be cool. He thought it would be weird if it was the latter.
"Yeah, I mean though I can't really go up, too much work lately. You Know. "
"Yeah that makes sense." Alice said while staring at the ground.
"Maybe when I am back, if you're around we could do something?" Alice Asked.
Alices question to him felt like something else, like different than how most people invite him to things.
Dick floundered. "Like what you thinking?" He then understood, "Yeah, yeah I should be around." Trying to be cool he leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms.
"For sure yeah, I mean I'll be here, not going anywhere." He let out a small laugh.
"Okay, awesome, I got to run, see you!" She gave him a quick hug and left.
Dick was stunned. He thought for a second about running after her. Saying "Yo is it alright if I come too?" but this risked too many things. He logged into his bank account, checking the app. It wouldn't refresh, and when it did he had to again agree to the terms and the conditions. He had total 55$ that would be enough for groceries until next Friday, but even then he'd have to be frugal.
"Theres no way, I can go." He whispered to himself. He tapped his pencil on his leg, he had some money at home, coins, but no way its more than 10$.
"Fuck."
He closed his computer, and placed it in his bag.
