She had the window open. A breeze blew the curtains a little, the candle light flickered. Keith thought about the boat earlier. He took it down all the way from the East side of Manhattan to the bottom. On that you could see the whole city take it all in. There was a stronger breeze there. He watched people take selfies and one person lost his hat. He didn't tell Jackie this.
It struck Keith at how that guy handled the situation. Keith reacted internally with sadness, he would have worn the hat tighter. It was a nice hat, he'd be sad to lose something like that. Wouldn't even buy it in the first place, but the man just laughed.
"I needed another anyway" he said.
It surprised Keith, he thought that guy would have been so different. Keith thought maybe he needed this break more than he realized. Too much of the same thoughts.
He felt sort of embarrassed like he bought someone a bad present.
He almost bought the guy a hat, even stood in line at a little corner shop, looking over his shoulder that the guy was still close.
Then he didn't know why, but he just walked away, didn't remember this until now.
