2001: A Space Odyssey

has written about the absence of certain movie memories because he simply has not watched the movies. Perhaps I should have taken this approach with 2001: A Space Odyssey. This movie is heralded as one of the greatest science fiction movies of all time, and yet I struggled to get through it.

Apparently, I'm not the only one. I did a Google search to find out more about the movie and saw the following responses for "People also ask:"
  • What is so special about 2001: a space odyssey?
  • Why is 2001 a space odyssey so boring?
  • Is 2001 a space odyssey worth watching?

This movie came out in 1968, and for its time I'm sure it was ground-breaking. One could draw a comparison with Star Wars, which was released in 1977. At least there is actual action and plot in Star Wars. The first two acts are rather slow. The best part of the movie is the third act where the HAL 9000 computer AI is introduced. I don't even know what I was watching in the fourth act, but perhaps I should have had an edible before watching it.

This movie is certainly not for everyone. I guess I'm glad I checked it off my list, but I won't be hounding anyone to watch it themselves.

Another movie on my "I have never seen" list

Wow I'm amazed by all the 'standard canon' films that are on your 'never seen' list Peter! Glad Pulp Fiction is off that list though.
