Someone Else

as reply to memory wipe

BAKA thought these people were crazy. When they went back in the old guy had some wine, port. BAKA had two glasses and now had a warm buzz. He stepped outside again. Said he had to smoke but just stepped outside and lit a cigarette didn’t inhale.

There was a plane flying overhead. There weren’t any other lights around. He took a deep breath in and then out. Maybe they need to postpone. They were supposed to leave in two days. But maybe they could just stay here for good.

There was something precious in this moment, with the old guy retelling stories. They had a fire and turkey. It wasn’t even thanksgiving. They made this one day full. Like a celebration Baka thought.

The hum of crickets and cicadas became louder he felt. Now the plane was out of sight.

He put the cigarette out and went back inside.

“Thank god your back, we were gunna send a search party out for you.” The old man said and laughed. A big hearty laugh. Warm like the fire. Raspy like smoke.

“We were just telling the story of our travels. When Marc was someone else.”
