Cartoonist

Lately I have been giving Scott Adams a lot of my time. His books, his blogs, his interviews - all of it. I am getting to know him more than I did before. It all started with me deciding that I wanted to write like him. Hands down, he is one of the best writers out there. Plus 1 for the fact that he has his way with humor.

In his book, he talks about how he has worked hard to build a system. He is a strong advocate of system over goals. One of the things he mentions in system building is the idea of simplicity. I have written a post about that. One example he give is his artwork for Dilbert. He keeps it simple and minimal. That way, it takes him very little time to create the comic and he can focus his energy on the content.

That example got me thinking. How difficult is it to be a cartoonist? Not a world famous one like Scott but just a regular comic. I understand that the problem is marketing and getting an audience. But as a hobby, how difficult would it be?

As a content creator, it would need very short and precise language. I assume that would be the hardest part. But the illustration and drawing - that could be outsourced. It seems like an interesting idea. A fun experiment for building on satire and precise content writing.
Not difficult at all. You just make cartoons and you're a cartoonist! Ha of course unless you mean a person who makes money off being a cartoonist. Then that would be quite hard and take a lot of time.

Yeah I like the idea of making some for fun.

can i see some? Make one today. Choose a constraint so it's easy

Here's a constraint if you struggle to decide for yourself:

Two people throwing away some large object into a public dumpster. What are they saying to each other?

Hmm... maybe I don't like constraints. I like Dilbert style comic... sarcasm about corporate office.

I have some things on my to-do list today but I may just indulge in this... stay tuned.
