Endurance

Psychobiology researcher Samuele Marcora defines endurance as “the struggle to continue against a mounting desire to stop”.

Most things worth doing are going to test your endurance, which is to say that there are going to be days where you will want to stop.

Maybe you have specific reasons, maybe you don’t.

When it comes to surmounting the struggle to continue, there isn’t some magic formula or workflow to turn to.

In these cases, it’s best just to ask the basic question: “why did I embark on this journey to begin with?”

Sometimes reminding yourself of why you started in the first place and recognizing that your reasons are still compelling and worthwhile is all the fuel you need to continue onward.

Other times, you will realize that circumstances have changed and what got you into the game isn’t as enticing as it once was, in which case it’s probably a good time to stop and divert your energy elsewhere.

Quitting isn’t a problem when the journey doesn’t make sense anymore.

And the last thing that you want to do is endure for the sake of enduring.
And the last thing that you want to do is endure for the sake of enduring.

This is one of the toughest things to deal with in life.
