It is fashionable these days to opine about how artificial intelligence is going to take over the world and our jobs sometime in the future. Amazon has stores without any workers. Self-driving vehicles are being tested. I once bought a cup of coffee from a robot arm at the San Jose airport.
I started thinking about which jobs would not easily be replaced by some AI program. Surely a management role would be a hard one.
Today, the director at my second client sent my co-worker Mike and me a message indicating that she will be out of the office next week. She asked us if we're ok running one of the meetings. I replied, "I'm okay if Mike is." Mike replied, "I'm okay if Brandon is." Her reply was, "LOL." I then wondered if an AI manager saw that exchange, would it know what to do next? Of course, she's going to schedule the meeting and we will run it in her absence. Would some AI be sophisticated enough to figure that out?
I'm not too worried about AI taking over my current role any time soon. By some miracle, if it happens, I say great now time to move on to something else.
