It’s very easy to be shallow. Thinking thru on problems is hard work. Thinking through on a problem is the primary work. Thinking thru is the state when absolutely no edge case catches you unaware or at least 80%. Think thru before that team meeting. Think thru before committing your team to that decision. When you’ve thought thru you’re able to harmonize your ideas well with the obvious and not so obvious constraints. I use to think being excited or passionate about the problem is enough, nah, only neophytes think like that. Don’t get me wrong, passion, excitement and enthusiasm might get you thru the door, earn you a seat at the table but thinking thru delivers the solution. Thinking thru things requires being obsessive about the problem, mulling over it. The problem starts rolling over in your mind like a rubber ball rolling down the hill.
The curse of the social media and doom scrolling is that, it breeds shallow thinkers. The fella thinks he knows a lot, but nah, you know nothing Jon Snow.
Thinking thru problems is hard work, but it slaps leadership on you. John Maxwell says a leader is one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way. Either you’re the Janitor or the CEO counts for nothing, in that meeting room or slack room, the fella who knows the way and shows the way is the leader.
