Some Kind Of Way

It sipped its coffee like it was a ticket to a show that a friend couldn't go to, and wanted to enjoy it enough for the both of them.

It sipped its coffee like at a job interview, wanting to get to know it more while realizing that it wasn't the reason it was there.

It sipped its coffee like coffee was the only thing it wanted 45 minutes ago but the urge met a fad's end.

It sipped its coffee like it wished the smell alone could deliver its caffeine, without needing to bring the liquid to its mouth.

It drank its coffee like it was a gift from an old friend who'd grown just a bit too far apart to want to see more regularly.

It drank its coffee like it wanted something else but it'd already had two miscommunications with the wait staff and wasn't ready to try for a third.

It drank its coffee like it wished it'd had a spoon in it, to swirl around and distract itself from the only slightly-too cool breeze.

When the two got up from the table and went separate ways, it wandered around the block for a few minutes before finding another nearby cafe and heading in.
This is a good fucking stream of thoughts and ideas that had me guessing and imagining the entire time.

Probably my favorite post about
coffee
here. And I love coffee
