I block my calendar for appointments, but that does not stop people from sending me meeting invites when I'm clearly marked as out of the office. I enjoy declining these meetings with the message that I have an appointment. It's just as well because odds are the meeting wouldn't have been MEATY anyway.
Usually saying you have an appointment is good enough. Most people don't raise a fuss if you say you have a doctor's appointment or dentist's appointment. We all understand those. Even an appointment with a chiropractor is now considered more acceptable than it used to be. After all, you're not going to a chiropractor if nothing's wrong.
This afternoon I had my routine massage that occurs every three weeks. Of course, I didn't tell anyone that this was the appointment. I told anyone who needed to know that it was an appointment with my chiropractor. I have found that people have odd reactions to the announcement of a massage. Some people classify a massage as some sort of luxury, in the same category as a hair or nail appointment. You don't have to do these things, and you certainly can work them around these work meetings that are so urgent. Sorry, my self-care is deemed more important.
