Design

As a fun project, I started to design t-shirts on a few print of demand websites. I used to previously outsource anything design related. I assumed I had no skills there.

But one thing I have realized after trying a few things - is that there is so much inspiration out there. When I was trying to renovate my house to sell, I got so many creative ideas from surfing the web and watching some HGTV shows. After spending a little time looking at samples and understanding the trends that sell, it is relatively easy to come up with ideas even if you aren't very design oriented. There is a lot of content on YouTube if you want to learn how to do design related renovations for cheap as well.

Similarly, if you want to create a flyer or a website, there are so many cool templates out there to see and learn what to do. I have stared to feel like design isn't as difficult as I used to think.

When I started to design some t-shirts, I looked around for the type of designs I like and the common types of fonts used. Once I got that figured out, I started to play with canva. And I realized how much I like the idea of creating something from scratch and making it beautiful. I played around with mockups to see what the t-shirts look like on models and I loved it.

Now when I want to take a break from writing or work, I find myself whipping up a design as therapy.

Good on you for trying things out. I think that people get obsessed with prematurely outsourcing.

When you're at the beginning stages of things, most of us are, then it's better to try things. If it turns out you really don't like it or are really that bad then you can outsource at that point.
