Walking with Dad

My dad came to the US recently to visit us. He is extremely found of walking and never misses a day - rain or shine. Seeing him walk everyday makes the rest of us eager to follow his example and get the same results.

I started walking just about a month ago. I started with few minutes, went up to 5K and now I do 10K steps a day. At one point, my dad wanted to be with me while I walked so he could make sure I was ok. And then we started to talk a lot during those walks. And we both enjoyed those moments a lot. Now every time I want to go out to walk, I ask him to join me and he does the same. It has become our ritual for exchanging ideas.

I know that having a buddy during working out sessions is a good thing. It helps you push through the times when you feel like skipping it. Having this ritual with my dad has made me enjoy the process and get the health benefits as well. I think I can get to my health goals through walking alone. Just changing the pace and duration.

On another note, it is a privilege to get this type of time with my dad at his age. And get to know things that I may not know about him in the process.
