He checked his phone. 7:30. She told him to meet her at the Belvadere Square at 6:30. He’d spent the past hour staring at his phone, scrolling through instagram, looking at the news, and rereading the text messages she sent him 3 days ago.
Her: Hey, is this Seth?
Seth: Yeah. What’s up?
Her: Seth Jones?
Seth: Lol that’s me
Her: I have something to tell you
Seth: Ok.. Lol
Seth: Who is this? Btw
Her: My name is Aimee. Aimee Cee
Aimee: Can you meet me on Thursday at Belvedere Square. I’ll tell you there
Seth: Haha. How important is this? I Guess I could meet you there after work
Aimee: I will see you then
Seth: Wait? How do you even know me?
Seth: Can’t you just tell me now?
Seth: lol ok….
Seth: hey I’ve been here an hour. I think I’m gonna head home now…
Seth: you coming?
Seth sent this last text and looked around. It was already starting to get dark and gray clouds began to fill up the sky. Seth was sitting outside. There were only 5 other people seated around him. A middle aged man and his 2 young girls. An elderly woman reading a magazine. And a man about 10 years older than Seth on some business call.
Every time a car passed the parking lot and zoomed down the street he looked up excitedly hoping Aimee Cee would swerve in driving some fancy convertible. Or maybe she’d be driving a big pink hummer. He imagined her being the same age as him. 28. But really she could be any age. He opened Facebook and entered her name in the search bar. Countless results appeared. There were Aimee Cee’s in Australia, Ghana, Virginia, and many more places across the world. But none in Appleton, Wisconsin, Seth’s hometown.
Seth had no idea what news Aimee could even have for him. He lived a pretty mundane life. He worked a 9-5 at an accounting firm. He lived with 2 of his college buddies in a house he purchased last summer. And he spent most of his time playing video games and taking his dog for walks in the park. In fact this was probably the most interesting thing to happen to him in the past 6 months.
Seth stared at his phone again. He only had received one message since he arrived at Belvedere Square. A text from his Ex asking when he could bring back some books she had lent him. He didn’t feel like responding. Instead he looked around again. There was only one person around him now. A man he hadn’t seen before who was eating some scone.
“can I bring you your check sir?” Seth jumped up in his chair startled
“Uh.. sure. Yeah, I suppose I am done.”
“Looks like your date blew you off” His waitress said
“I guess so… She missed out on some nice Pizza” Seth said as he looked down at a silver platter filled with crumbs and chewed up crusts.
His waitress smiled and was about to respond when Seth’s phone started ringing in his pocket.
“Hey, what’s up?” Seth said. He was kind of sad to see his waitress walking away. He kind of enjoyed chatting with her.
“Is this Seth Jones?” A woman asked
“ Yeah, I’m Seth.. Wait is this Aimee Cee. I’ve been waiting an hour for you. You’re lucky I have a light day today.”
“This isn’t Aimee Cee.”
“Oh.. Seth said disappointedly. Who is this then?
“Annie Cee. I’m Aimee’s sister”
“Annie Cee? What happened to Aimee Cee. She told me she had something important to tell me?”
“My sister’s been in accident. Can you come pick me up actually? She’s been taken to a hospital.”
“Sure, I can come pick you up. Where do you live.”
“8485 Gecko Drive”
