I got an invite for an AWS female founders day. It was yesterday Sept 23rd. It was a 5 hour event online. I forget how and when I signed up for it but I got a reminder from Amazon so I logged in.
I always enjoy listening to the journey of startup companies. This event was pretty well organized. I was able to listen to 3 sessions with full attention. A lot of the women shared how difficult and rare it is to get funding for women and minorities in the startup world. Since I belong to both categories, that is a double whammy for me. So I paid attention to some of the creative ideas that the speakers used to get around the existing systems.
One of the founders that spoke looked very young. And what surprised me about her was the fact that her business started after the pandemic started. And she was doing so well despite the decrease in the availability of VC funding.
The one theme I heard, probably because I wanted to, was the power of their teams. Most founders took time to appreciate their team and how they work together. Especially the people that had a purpose for their business beyond the profitability, spoke of their passion and drive as helping them through the tough times.
In the end, there was an offer by AWS to provide the startup companies about $100,000 in AWS credits and other startup resources. I got very excited and looked at the application criteria. Sadly, one of the things needed was having a startup that was at least 10 years old. I was not thinking about business that many years ago. If anyone else could use the offer, here is the LINK.
