When I read Scott Adam's book, one chapter where Scott talks about investigating what we liked as children caught my attention. 

I made a deliberate attempt to remember what I liked. 
I remember fake cooking with leaves and sticks. 
I remember wanting to create a magazine with write ups and images.
I remember liking to design ear rings
I remember liking to design clothes. 

My mother reminded me about how I asked her to buy me fabric so I could actually cut and design outfits. It was a long time ago. A profession in design isn't taken seriously in Ethiopia and is not encouraged by the family. So that hobby died a while back. 

Thanks to Scott Adams and my new found interest in design as a skill, I revisited the fashion design thing. I started to think about what types of design I am interested in. And I also saw how a lot of non-Africans were investing in African related patterns and trends. So I talked to my mom and brainstormed some ideas with her. 

As of right now, there is a folder in my google drive labeled - African Fashion design. 
What I want to do is create designs using African patterns, enable African designers, create local  shops/manufacturing. And eventually, make it so Africans never have to import anything textile related. Kind of like what Mahatma Ghandhi did by deciding to only wear Indian made clothes back when India was fighting for it's independence.
