October's Formal - 3 cafe

It was Sarah P from Chemistry. I felt silly having her ask why I was here rather than preparing for the formal because we didn't know each other that well. We had worked in the same group in labs chemistry labs twice and we chatted in the hallway between classes, but besides that we moved in completely separate circles.

So the fact that she knew I was going to this formal meant that I must've been a complete jabbering fool the past few weeks. Probably talking about nothing interesting and instead rambling on about this formal. I tried to think about something else on the spot there at the cafe as I held the Italian Soda in my hand, but that's when I realized that I knew nothing about Sarah. Usually I could come up with some conversational gateway with people I met but not with her. What interested her? What did she do in her free time? I had no clue.

The best thing I could come up with in terms of conversation was: "busy weekend? doing work on a Saturday?"

She smiled. "No not working right now actually. But yes, I do have quite the busy weekend. But homework can wait until tomorrow. Tonight I'm just relaxing."

"Relaxing at the
cafe
?"

"Yes."

"Hm. What do you do?"

"Read."

"For fun you mean? Like a novel?"

"I do sometimes, but not tonight. I have a non-fiction book tonight."
