Man's search for meaning

I've read through the first part of man's search for meaning by Victor Frankl. If you haven't read this book, I urge you to order a copy and read it. It is essential. For many reasons but the main one being that you are concerned. We all are. It will soften the relationship you have with hardship, and it will help you find meaning and strength throughout your suffering. And, in life, we do suffer. There's no such thing as a life without suffering. People who wrap themselves in comfort suffer the most because their suffering is not understood. This book gave voice to some insights kept in the back of my mind for a while. I always knew that having something to look forward to, a higher objective or aim will get one through and out of hell. On a separate note, I'm baffled by the Nazi regime and the cruelty of crimes they committed against humanity. Ten pages in, and I had to pause for a moment and reflect.
The holocaust actually happened. Six million people were killed. It was evil machinery put in motion by a totalitarian regime aiming to eradicate an entire race - Jewish. I sat to reflect because this happened only 80 years ago. Did humanity figure out a way to prevent events like this from happening again? Can this happen again in the future? The sad realization is that we're living in a world of extremes. While there are so many innovations; art, music, science, tech, there are also things to be worried about, such as; eugenics movements, radical religious groups, weapons of mass destruction, and technologies of control.

I'll keep reading this book until the end and write a more comprehensive account of my understanding of it.
