A year ago, I was looking forward to the end of 2020 and optimistic about 2021. Then the Delta variant arrived and plunged us back into the worst parts of the pandemic, lockdowns, restrictions and uncertainty. Though the Zoom-Zoom club got off to a fast start, more lockdowns and border restrictions curtailed many activities. However, it would be remiss of me not to reflect on the past year and be grateful for the club activity that did go ahead.
Though all members were restricted, our Tasmanian and many regional Victorian members avoided lockdown and enjoyed a fruitful year of events. However, when there was some light between lockdowns, everyone made the most of getting out for a drive.
The Zoom-Zoom Club Sprint Championship got off to a flying start, with six of the first seven rounds completed before the August lockdown. Fortunately, one last round at Phillip Island late in the year provided the championship with sufficient rounds to declare a result.
The Eastern Victorian Chapter conducted their annual 3 Peaks event for a handful of members not in lockdown. They also completed five rounds of their inaugural Zoom-Zoom Club Khanacross Championship at Bryant Park.
We have now moved into a different phase with the pandemic, hopefully with no lockdowns. The club has had terrific support from members to kick start runs, and everyone is doing their bit to make our club activity as safe as possible. With this in mind, we are hoping for a better 2022 for the Zoom-Zoom club.
