Writing a Story

I have been reading a lot of fiction lately.
Partly to distract myself and also to learn how to write interesting fiction.

I had severely underestimated how enormous the task of writing fiction was. I am slowly learning that there are things that I have to learn and improve on with writing fiction.

When I think about the books, shows and movies I love, they all had very interesting characters and conversations. It is so easy to listen to good work and so hard to come up with it. The type of writing I have been doing the last 3 years were all memoir type of writing. I feel like that comes easily to me. So shifting to writing a novel may require a few drafts.

So while I work on recovering from the virus, I am doing a lot more listening of novels.

I just discovered a book by a Cameroonian writer - Imbolo Mbue titled 'Behold the dreamers.'
It is exactly the type of book I love reading. It was the authors first novel and got a lot of recognition and awards. I love hearing African stories told beautifully by Africans.
I hope to be able to do that as well.
