context, for better or worse

Have you ever taken a trip, gone to a concert, or participated in something that you don’t usually do, and walked away having a new perspective?

It could be a new perspective about the meaning of life (deep, I know), goals, values, work, relationships — anything.

Have you also noticed that when you return to your normal routine, one of two things happens: a) the new perspective springs you into a series of new thought patterns and decisions or b) the perspective fades away and becomes replaced with your old thinking?

For most people, it seems option b) happens most of the time.

This is the power of context.

How we think is closely connected to where we are, what we do, and who we are with.

If you like the way things are going in life, then this is a really good thing. It means you’re in the right place.

However, if you feel stuck but can’t quite put into words why then a change in context might be good.

Without sounding too new-agey about it, putting yourself into novel situations opens up a portal to fresh perspectives.

Every new thing you try and every new place you go gives you a glimpse into the fact that there are so many ways to play the game of life.
