The
radio
is something I now take for granted. With Spotify or Apple Music always around. I can choose whatever I want. But there is something nice about the radio. People you don’t know talk about things they kind of know about. And then they play music that’s popular at the time. I like more the unexpectedness of it. Or the chances it has to bring back songs from another time. Songs there is no way you would choose, but brings back funny memories you didn’t know you had. I find the radio is the best at this, maybe in second to a old friend who you regularly traded mixes with.
It’s nice too that it’s not just algorithmically suggesting things to my profile. Like if I listen to it with my parents there are things all ages like.
I’m some ways it is boring though, and you are stuck with things you don’t really want like car ads. Or dealship commercials, I don’t want to see myself in a Kia. But with this there is a freedom in not being constantly entertained and calmness out boredom. And then your favourite song comes on and reminds you of a time your friend was dressed up like speed racer and everything else doesn’t matter.
