Learning To Trust My Instinct

I went to sell my mom's car this afternoon.
We had previously gone to carmax where they gave us a price higher than we expected. So we decided that today was going to be the day we sold the car to them.

As I drove towards the carmax parking lot, I saw a gentleman waving some flyers at me. He had a big sign saying that his company would pay more money. After I passed him, I got curious and backed up.

I asked him where they were located and he explained that they were only 500ft away. I took the flyer from him and parked my car. As my mom approached, I suggested we check out the place just to see what they offer.

She was against the idea cause she wanted the safety of carmax to get the sale completed.
But I insisted and we drove to the location. We were greeted by an interesting looking fellow right at the entrance. My mom didn't want to exit the car but again, I insisted.

The salesperson didn't look legit but we went inside to hear what he would say. The entrance of the office looked like a badly kept public restroom. There was a big TV showing horse racing. There was a treadmill in the middle of the "office" that didn't look like it was ever used. There was no one else in this location.
And the man just seemed off.
He proceeds to ask us about the car and then asks for the key to drive it a little. At that point, I was very uncomfortable and was going to suggest to come with him. But I thought that it may be more dangerous to be in a vehicle with this person. So my mom and I sat in the office and realized that even if he doubled the carmax offer, we were going to get the hell out of that place if we ever got out keys back. At that point, I noticed that the calendar in the wall was showing June 2018. This person stopped changing his calendar page almost 4 years ago.
There is no way this is a legitimate business.

Fortunately, the man actually returned back to the office with our keys. He then offers us $200 more than carmax. I quickly said, no thanks and got up to leave. The man then started to offer more and more money while my response stayed firm. I quickly grabbed the keys from the table and told my mom that we have to leave. After insisting that we should check out this place, my reaction to his offer seemed to puzzle my mom a bit. But we were out of there in record time.

We were holding our breath until we got out of the parking lot.

I knew right then that this scary incident was a post that wrote itself.

This was hilarious to read. Similar thing happend to me once in
Colombia
when my friends and i were trying to book a boat ride to some island.

Yeah it is funny to my mom and I too - but we were terrified then. I should learn to be more careful. I would definitely not do such things in a foreign country in particular.
