Sentimental

"Hey, How's your day going?" he asked.
she looked surprised that he was wondering such a thing. "It was okay, I didn't get around to everything I need to do. But I caught up with some old friends." She sounded more tired and drained than in their prior interactions.
"That's alright I didn't really finish what I need to get done at work either." He had however managed to deliver the Johnny Timberland check to his boss and through some emails with the basketball player, had organized a public event at Smith Brothers' Veterans Park on Sunday to celebrate the donation.
"What's it like working for someone else. I've only ever been self-employed so I'm not really sure what it's like." Jasmine said. In reality she was hardly employed at all relying on the charity of her parents and older men to get by.
"It's alright I guess. I just try to avoid disappointing people. Before this I was working for large corporations. So it feels good to do something that like makes a difference I guess..." He trailed off. She turned the music up as she drove down Dixie Lane. It was starting to get dark and the song Yes, I'm changing by Tame Impala started to play. He tapped his leg in rhythm with the beat as Todd licked the back of his neck.
"Who was that girl in your apartment the other day?" Jasmine asked.
"Oh, That's my Ex. I'm watching her doggy here for a couple weeks."
"Awww, that's cute. You're a good ex. I would never do that for any of my exes. I stop talking to them after we break up. There's no point really."
"Yeah. I feel most people are like that.. But that seems kinda sad doesn't it. I mean I feel like she knows me better than anyone I've ever met." he said softy.
"Yeah.." She said. The music was really loud and he felt as if she didn't he a word he said.
"You seem like the sentimental type."
"Yeah. maybe I am... So, why do you need all this weed. you bringing me to a party or something." He joked trying to lighten the mood.
"Oh no party for me. My childhood friend is back in town and needs some weed. He's a big stoner. I don't smoke myself actually, It makes me super paranoid"
He felt stupid for buying the extra weed. "He'll pay you for it when we get there by the way." He looked down at his feet as three fancy china tea cups banged around gently.
"You wanna come in and meet him. Maybe we could play a game or something." She suggested.
"Sure. Sounds cool. I haven't really socialized like that in awhile." He wondered what this guy was like. Maybe she was interested in him or he could just be a friend like she said. But he felt like he detected a shift in the tone of her voice when she mentioned him.
"So did you grow up around here?" he asked. He was curious about this Jasmine. She seemed incomplete to him. Like there was more beneath the surface than she was letting on.
