I think much is lost when we're not being good with the people around us. A smile doesn't cost anything, and it goes a long way. It's the same for a good word, a compliment, or a simple encouragement. It doesn't cost anything. Ok, maybe some people don't actually know how to do it, but it requires some practice if you're not used to it. Step one: take a deep breath and think something nice about yourself while holding a hand on your heart. Now, exhale slowly and let that thought go out with the exhale. On the next inhale, tell yourself this: I am a human being capable of love; exhale, inhale again in a relaxed manner and say: May I be happy. Then say, May my family be happy. May my friends be happy. May all the people I know be happy; May all the people in my country be happy; May all people on earth be happy. Try to picture these groups of people, and yourself too, as one of them with each sentence.
About being nice
Ahh the good ol' loving kindness meditation.
Kindness meditation indeed, it goes a long way.
