"Fuck Fuck Fuck!"
"Shut the fuck up! I can't concentrate!"
"Fuck! Why did you just do that?"
"Why did I save our asses?"
"I was going to catch up with that punk and block --"
"Marquis! SHUT UP!"
After a moment of silence Marquis started again. "Fuck Fuck Fuck!"
"Grove Man can you watch for me. Are they still on us?"
"No. Nobody's behind us now."
"Okay. Can you keep a watch for us, yeah?"
"Sure thing, Georgie."
It was night. They were driving down the with unmarked speed limit signs. Which meant the speed limit was 55 mph. Which mean everybody drove 65. It was a dark night. The kind where you could only see 20 or so feet in front of you, where the night swallowed the headlights.
Usually driving down these roads was a peaceful ordeal. It was one of his favorite places to listen to music to. But this time around he felt like he was in a horror movie. Being chased by mutant high school students with luxury cars, tracking him and the 5'4 Marquis down to kill them for stealing what was theirs.
"Yo, G-man. How you doing back there? You see me out there?"
Grover smiled at Marquis.
"Yeah you know I was going to smoke LaDouche. Georgie had to come and ruin things. But it's alright. We'll make it out of this. I trust us. Anyways thanks for having my back there, G-Man. Thanks for having our backs."
Grover nodded.
By reflect Georgie was about to say shut up again but then he realized that he actually liked having Marquis and his supreme, delusional confidence smooth out the situation. Otherwise what would they all be feeling in that car right at that moment? Terror and ?
"Where should we go?" Grover asked.
"I mean we are adults. Can't we just go back to our place?"
"No." Georgie said without tone.
"Well why the hell not?"
"You don't know these kids. They are looking to do something crazy tonight. And we have just made ourselves the crazy thing."
Marquis thought for a moment in silence. Then he smirked and said, "maaaan you only know this because this is the type of shit you used to do back in high school. Isn't it right?" Marquis then turned to the backseat and pointed at Grover. "You white boys do some crazy shit, man."
Grover smiled. he was kind of liking being a part of this. Even though he knew he could be in big trouble. Not just with his mom... but shit... he could get beat up by Lachance and the others.
"Don't worry about LaDouche." Marquis said almost like he was reading Grover's mind. "I know how to handle myself. And I got your back, G-Man. So Georgie... where we headed."
"Take off that stupid mask."
Marquis made a face like he just realized he still had it on.
---
It was a quiet night. Until the sound of rubber rolling slowly on asphalt approached from outside his bedroom. He had his headphones on but no sound was coming through it. That's how he heard the sound outside. He saw through his blinds. And he had his friend with him.. the same one who had been sitting with him outside that high school party earlier.
Damn now what the hell were they doing here? He checked his phone to see if Georgie had called or texted him but there was nothing. What in the world could they want?
