I've never been an NFL fan or an MLB fan. Growing up I was mostly into the NBA. I recall a phenomenon where a team that was winning championships would suddenly have all kinds of fans who previously were uninterested. This happened with Michael Jordan and the Bulls. Kobe and the Lakers. Lebron and whatever team he's on. The idea is that these "fans" are only fans when the team is winning. As soon as the team is no longer winning, suddenly these people are not fans. This is known as being on the bandwagon.
Today's Super Bowl LV is between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. All eyes are on Tom Brady, who is making his record tenth appearance and needs to use a second hand to wear his six Super Bowl rings. I was expecting to see a lot of bandwagon fans, but for some reason, I have not found a large number of them. Even Patriots fans have said they are Patriots fans first and Tom Brady fans second. It seems like more people are rooting against Tom Brady than for him. Is this a reverse bandwagon syndrome?
Some people say they are rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs as the underdogs. Kansas City won the Super Bowl last year! How can you say the reigning championship team is the underdog?
I have no horse in the race. I just want an entertaining game. I do like the idea that Tom Brady is the same age as I am (43) and he's still operating at peak performance.
