LinkedIn doesn't do much for me. I have referred to it as the "last refuge of the unemployed scoundrel." When people I know reach out to me on LinkedIn, it's usually because they are looking for a job or looking for a candidate for a job. I'm mainly connected to people in my industry, which does not interest me.
I am also annoyed by LinkedIn notifications. I play the game of how badge icon notifications indicate a "real" notification.
"You appeared in 14 searches this week." So what? What am I supposed to do with this notification?
"XXX viewed your profile." Again, so what? Why do I care if they looked at my profile?
"XX shared a post." None of these posts are relevant to me. Why are you telling me this??
"XX reshared a post." Again, so what. Your algorithms are not presenting me with information that is relevant or interesting to me.
And don't get me started on sponsored messages showing up in my inbox. I'm not interested in something called LinkedIn Premium. I'm also not interested in an MBA from Grand Canyon University.
I don't get much traction with my own content on LinkedIn, even with articles that are somewhat related to the business world. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.
Today, my company announced that it's providing us with access to LinkedIn Learning. This appears to be an offering with LinkedIn Premium, so I'm going to get to test this learning platform out for free. According to the website, LinkedIn Learning has 15,000+ expert-led video courses. I perused the main page and mainly see soft skills, but I will take a deep dive and see whether any of this training will be beneficial to me.
