the only thing that's real desire fear pain ostracism

Always, all that is required is a
desire
.
For if you have that, then everything else becomes secondary.

pain
fear
ostracism
, they all become necessary but bareable payments for the only thing that's real.

80 years if you're lucky. 100 if you're blessed.
At the end you'll be dying alone.

Even if surrounded by loved ones at the death bed.
When the departure comes.
You'll enter the darkness. Alone.

What makes such an unescapable reality worth it?

The only thing. Desire.
love it. chilling, but true.

i interpret this as learning to stop giving a shit about what other people think so you can lean into your values/desires.

seems hard to do when you're always wondering how someone is going to react

when i was writing the part about how dying is an-alone endeavour i swear -- no lie -- that i thought for a moment about your dad.

"i interpret this as learning to stop giving a shit about what other people think so you can lean into your values/desires."

I still do think that one has to not give a shit about what others think. However I don't think this can be learned.

One cannot 'stop' -- in an active sense -- giving a shit about what others think about them. One can however care about something so much that they no longer have time and attention given to what others think.
