The boiler stopped

as reply to thrown into darkness

I prefer short cold showers in the morning, but this time, I felt like I needed to comfort myself after this terrible night. I couldn't stop thinking about the nightmare, and the fact that I couldn't remember a thing about it was profoundly unsettling. It felt as if I had a split personality or split mind, with secret chambers and corridors. Annoyed, I switched off the hot water and continued my shower cold, breathing while controlling the impulses arising in my body triggered by the cold water. The double wake-up experience in my dream was even more disturbing.

It was the last thing I could recall from my nightmare. How do I know I am not asleep now? A nightmare wrapped in a dreamed waking state. How do I know I am not dreaming right now? I switch back on the hot water while taking a pee. However, no more hot water poured, so I walked into the living room to check what was wrong with the boiler. Strangely it was switched off. Weird, I turn it on and walk back towards the shower when I see the screen of my phone lighting up. Someone was calling; I picked it up, it was my friend Fred; I tapped the answer button.
- I was gonna do a stupid thing bro; good you picked up the phone; what the fuck are you doing now?
- I was just taking a shower, but no worries, what's up, bro?
- I'm walking in Treptower park, had a fight with Camilla last night, it was bad man, this time was really bad. It started again from the fucking dog; (laughing); bro, I killed her fucking dog, I threw him out the window.
- What !?!
- No joke, bro, and then she started screaming at me and I fucking slapped her bro and then I left. Listen up, I'm coming over. Can I crash on your couch?
- Sure mate, come.
- Ok, see you in half an hour.
