that sound... lonely

Jazz didn't know what the hell she was doing at that bar. She should've stayed at home. She didn't even drink. But after her husband died she had felt so
lonely
. So she had gone to the only place there was to go in town. Mack's. But now the childhood tales of "them" were back. In live and living color.

Well actually she hadn't seen them yet. Their cries were echoing outside. No one in the bar was saying a thing. But their breaths were loud. Boy could she hear those breaths. You'd think they were all breathing their last gasp in as the ship was going down.

In a way that's how she felt. If this was a movie, everybody in the bar was probably about to die. The beasts would come in and claw their guts out. But this wasn't a movie. She closed her eyes. Opened them. Then closed them once more. Let the sound of those around her, their breaths swallow her. She felt coddled. Like floating in a sensory deprivation tank. It felt nice. No lights. No TV. Just darkness. And every minute or so. That sound.
