A place worth being is exactly how it sounds: it’s the place you prefer to be because it provides any number of important qualities like meaning, joy, and fulfillment.
If you look back at the jobs you have had, the locations you have traveled, and the people you have engaged with, you will find that you probably already know much of what makes a place worth being:
You know what qualities made certain jobs so fulfilling.
You know what qualities made certain locations so beautiful and joyous.
And you know what qualities made certain interactions with others so meaningful.
Qualities like kindness, inspiration, and compassion.
You don’t just walk into or happen upon a place worth being, but rather it is a condition largely made possible through your actions.
A more kind place is made possible when you commit to being kind to others.
A more joyful place is made possible when you commit to helping create it.
A more fulfilling place is made possible when you commit to fostering a sense of meaning.
Moving towards a place worth being — the kind that you and others deserve — is a beautiful thing.
Part of getting there is choosing to act in its direction.
Honest Kindness without being attached to outcome-expectations is a superpower.
A related quote from Sam Harris that resonated re: mindset + happiness:
“It’s appropriate to be minimalist with respect to one’s expectations. Anything you can go out there and get isn’t going to equip you to be happy. The punch line of life really is that you can’t become happy, you can only be happy. And our efforts to become happy are predicated are the following logic: if we can change our lives in certain ways, if we can only bank certain experiences or arrange the furniture—the deck chairs on the titanic just so—then we’ll discover a good enough reason to fully relax into the present and find that the present is enough.” - Sam Harris
