One very popular writer that I found on medium posted this tweet - https://twitter.com/Tim_Denning/status/1577709960812716032 - about making money online. This is me sharing his writing and reviewing it.
1. Substack:
My take - A few people I know use substack already. Brandon just celebrated his 2 year mark. I created my profile sometime last week but I haven't started to post anything yet. I am not sure what to write about on a consistent basis that would warrant any payment at this point. But it is good to know that people on substack are used to paying for content.
2. Medium
My take - I agree with this. Since I started writing there about a year ago, I have built about 300 followers. My article for the writing competition was selected for distribution so that was exciting. I also find very well written content that I can learn from. There is a deliberate push for writers there to pay attention to title, image and tags. As a writer, I think it makes sense to think of all these aspects when posting online.
3. Ghostwriting
My take - Apparently ghost writing is very lucrative. I have never considered doing this. Writing feels like such a person endeavor to me that hiring someone else for myself for me writing for another person feels inauthentic. But if it is a means to make money, I guess it is worth exploring.
4. Sell $49 online courses
My take - This makes sense. I have taken courses and read books where people encourage this a lot. I once took a data visualization course that made me think that I could have thought the class myself. But it is hard to change my way of thinking into this 'sell what I know' mind frame. I need time to realize what I can offer that people would pay as much as $49 and be happy with what they got in exchange.
5. Coaching
My take - I hate the word coach. Everyone and their mother is a coach. I don't think all these people are qualified to coach other people. However, I find that a lot of my friends approach me to get something similar when it comes to health and mental wellbeing. Given the chronic conditions I have and the diet restrictions I follow, people often ask for my guidance. A few have encouraged me to get a nutrition certification too. I am still on the fence about this. So I went to fiverr.com and searched for coach gigs to see what I find. I was amazed to see the diversity in the options.... life coach, accountability buddy, marriage coach, divorce coach, public speaking coach.... so many types. And they are not cheap. Maybe there is something here.
I am not sure about $100,000 in 6 months but there are some solid ideas here.
