It was already 8:45 and the night had settled entirely. It was cold, just as cold as it can get during the month of October in Berlin. Mark had his rover parked on a side street 5 minutes away from his apartment at Hermanplatz. He always wore black. A black leather jacket, with a black t-shirt underneath, black jeans and and black Nike running shoes. It was a style, that he'd keep all year round. In summer he would wear less often his leather jacket. In winter he'd add a black wool sweater underneath, and sometimes a scaf, and change the sport shoes with some black leather boots.
It had just started raining so he sped up a bit, and when he arrived he jumped into his land-rover. The moment he paused closed the door it seemed like all the sounds of the city have ceased.
He paused for a moment to look outside at the people passing. It was friday, people were going out, others were coming from work, and others seemed to just be roaming around without any aim.
He could remember the dream he had last night. He now finally understood that he was carrying some dead weight that he had to get rid of. This burden was something he was well acquainted with but grew so accustomed whith that he took it as normal.
It was a part of him that had died, he had recognised it and understood it. This was the reason for his terific dreams. Now the only thing to do was to completely discard that dead weight somewhere and he knew the place that was just perfect for that.
Squeezing the steering wheel, gaze lost into a void ahead of him, the nightmares started to unveil themselves playing accurately in his mind now, one after another. He was walking inside a dense tropical forest, the air was humid and hot, filled with the scent of earth, the wet decomposing leaves, the bark of lianes. The landscape in front of him would be punctured by a few sun rays who escaped the lush vegetation, rendered visible by the misty air, inclined at 45 degrees they would give a hint of the daytime. 4 or 5 PM. As he advanced barefoot exploring his surroundings he felt the soil underneath his feet, almost alive fresh and moist, stimulating his entire body with each step he took. It was a sensation that pleased and scarred him at the same time. There were noises coming from everywhere. Insects, birds, the scream of a monkey. It all blended into a continuous mass of stimulation that he couldn't make any sense of and seemed to drive him insane. He felt exposed but he was not afraid he remembered how it felt to be there, lost and found at the same time, without knowing how he arrived or when, without sense of time, he was stuck there in the present moment. Then he remembered how suddenly in front of him appeared in a stray sunray a flower of exquisite beauty. It's pink petals, dotted with droplets of water were sparkling int he sun, as if they were made of silver, breaking the ligt into a miriad of colors, amplyfing it's colours. From the middle radiated countless filaments ending with an orange dot, each holding a droplet of liquid. It captivated his attention completely, he leaned down to look at it from up close.. This was no regular flower, it seemed to move it's petals an filaments in tandem as if she wanted to dance, to show off her liveliness. Getting a hint of it's scent, he dropped on his knees and brought his face closer to it, and took a deep breath... it felt divine and then he got closer almost touching the filaments with his nose when something unreal happen. The petals stuck on his face, and lianes that were previously dissimulated by the flower's leaves started latching around his neck and face. The filaments entered his nose, quickly advancing trough his nostrils into his sinuses, and further down into lungs suffocating him. An excruciating pain on his face, almost as if his skin was being dissolved by acid. The more he would fight, the tighter he would get entrenched in the lianes... He opened his mouth to scream and line entered, sliding into his stomach. He couldn't breathe, he was dying slowly second by second, getting covered with lianes and leaves. And then he woke up. Goosh... looking around the room, he saw himself in the corner, terrified as if trying to hold on to his life. Why... He understood now, that he was both, him the one who woke up from the dream, and him the one who was charmed by that flower of exquisite beauty, and who desperately fought for his life untill the last breath. He understood that these two characters are facets of his personality so intimateley connected, impossible to split apart. One knowing aspiring dreaming and thinking himself limitless. the other one filled with fear, holding on to life and safety.
"It's okay, don't worry angel" He said, turning on the engine, and driving out of the parking... "we will meet again soon"
