too late wind whistleblower

as reply to The Hill

Then it suddenly hit him. The thought. Why were the tires still pumped? He hadn't been back in over a year. No way his old man was riding this. And his mom? Forget it. So who? Or how?

He thought of this as the
wind
ruffled his hair. The sun looked beautiful. He thought about Diego. Diego was still out back West. Working hard. The news would hit him by next Saturday. Maybe even sooner. Most likely there would be a leak. A deal this big always had one. Not to say it was such a big deal that everybody would be talking about it. But big enough that those involved would learn about it from a
whistleblower
.

It was too late now. Will had made his decision already. The gears were in motion. Now there was only the consequences. When he had made the decision he knew he was making the wrong one. Still he didn't think he would have regrets like this. He thought the payout would somehow salve over the feeling. But guilt filled him.

He looked at the sunset and knew this would be one of the last times he'd still be able to feel not terrible for awhile.
