Everyone should write fiction.
Well not exactly everyone. But people with different expertise. In order to have a wide selection of diverse genres of fiction/movies/shows, there ought to be significant subject matter expertise on the topic. Otherwise it wouldn't be believable.
I think about the various shows and books I liked over the years.
House - Medical drama. It had to be spot on with the medical literature. Otherwise, it would take away a lot from the show.
The practice - Courtroom drama. The topics and arguments made had to make sense for the show to be as addictive as it was.
Similarly, shows about cops, Artificial Intelligence, genetics, espionage, psychologists and political drama all need to have experts in the creative work in order to have authenticity.
I am currently reading a book by Irvin Yalom. He is a therapist that is also a great author. His novels about therapy and patients is fascinating and educational for someone like me. I have always been very curious about the human mind. And this round about way of learning about psychology feed my hunger.
