The ambulance cried just a little too long. Usually sirens were in the distance. And Jane could tell what kind of sirens they were. Each vehicle had a different cry to it. This one was an ambulance she was sure.
She closed her eyes. Tried to fall back asleep. But knew she wouldn't. There was a peace in this. To lay there. Waiting. Listening.
Still the ambulance was crying. It must've been half a minute, but it felt like an entire episode.
When she woke up the next morning she did her usual routine, looked at the on the wall, and then headed to work on her . But everybody at the office was acting strange. She was out of the loop. She usually was. But this was different. The entire office seemed to be humming in sync. Usually she was out of the loop for the different things happening in a dozen different . However this morning everybody was on the same page.
She had taken a hiatus from using her for about a month now. It felt good to not always be reaching into her purse to see what stimulation awaited her. And unlike her greatest fear, she never actually missed out on anything important. This was the first time.
She didn't want to ask what had happened. People were already speculating upon the actual events. So she still didn't know what caused the meta discussions on top of meta discussions that were now happening.
