After eating two pieces of stale toast each, the two of them casually suggested that a cigarette would be nice. Although neither wanted one. The entire time, Casey couldn't get food off his mind. Why wasn't Dick suggesting they go out to breakfast. He was a guest. Shouldn't he treat him to some real breakfast? He could really go to a right now. He couldn't suggest going out to breakfast himself. Then there would be no chance of his meal being paid for.
Dick the whole time wished the cigarette would turn into a piece of fresh baked baguette. He wished the ashtray was a plate of scrambled eggs. The kind that were somewhat runny. God damn he was hungry. They had eaten the last of the bread. There was none of Jimmy.
The two of them smoked exchanging niceties.
Finally Jimmy came out. Dressed in new clothes.
"Hey dickwad!"
"Good to see you, Shitface!"
Casey got up to hug Jimmy.
"Why don't we go out to eat? I'm starving. My treat!"
Dick and Casey stood up a little to quick at the same time. Dick stared into Casey's eyes. Felt shame.
At the diner the three of them plowed through the grub. They ordered in total two appetizers, four entrees, and two dessert. Accompanied by a lot of coffee. The meals were a hearty mixture of animal, potatoes, and fried carbs drenched in syrup. It was just what Casey needed. Dick too. When Casey went up to go take a shit, Jimmy took a sip of coffee and made a sigh of relief.
"This is the life isn't it? Chilling here with my boys. Enjoying breakfast. Not killing myself over school."
Dick nodded. Although he was still killing himself over school.
"Say. Dickie boy. Could you pick this tab up? I think it'll be wise if I wait a day or two before I begin using my parents' credit card. By then I'll definitely have told them that I'm taking the semester off."
Dick's heart sank. There was no way he could afford this. Less way that he could admit this to Jimmy. He just nodded half heartedly. He barely noticed when Jimmy thanked him.
"But could you slide me your card? I don't want Casey to think you're paying for it. I'm supposed to be picking up the tab after all."
Dick passed his debit card under the table. Jimmy winked at him.
