walking in the rain rain car Spacecity

as reply to Umbrella

The
rain
pelted the asphalt and concrete. Keith tilted his head down, symbolically keeping himself dry. When the rain was lighter, tilting your head down could at least keep the rain out of your eyes and your face. Today it was meaningless.

Cars whizzed by. Sometimes they splashed water all over the sidewalk. Keith hadn't bought an umbrella yet. He had a
car
already. But he decided to walk today. Weather changes was still something he needed to get used to. Up in
Spacecity
the weather was the same all day every day. Cold. Sterile. Dry.

Being on land again. Under the clouds. It was a grab bag. It excited him. He stuck his tongue out and tasted the water. Felt his eyes trying to stay open and closed at the same time. It felt like he was crying.

A large lifted truck drove by. Splashing him. The splash came higher than his height. He froze for a moment. Being that wet without a bathing suit. Without being at a water park. It stunned him for a moment.

"Aghh" he yelled into the air. Not with anger. But with excitement. He felt more alive on this walk home from the diner than he had the last four years of his time at Spacecity.

He looked up at the sky. Let out another war cry. He saw himself like he was part of one of those films. The greatest catch or something.

He heard the sound of a car coming to a stop. He never forgot that sound.

"Hey stranger. You look like you could use a ride."

Keith examined himself. "I'm kinda wet."

"That's fine. I'll dry the seats after you. It's not a problem"

Keith looked at himself and then the stranger's car through the thick rainfall. Thought about it for a second. Then got in.
