Doug 14: Wasn’t Read

as reply to Doug 13: the risotto thickens

Godot was laying down his phone directly over his head. Times before he’d drop it on his face but this time he was focused. Ready to answer.

To pass the time he played online chess. Just small games 2 min. He imagined only kids on the app, because if he won they respond with curse words. If he lost they’d laugh.

He waited for two hours. The blue light from his phone was the only thing illuminating his face. Maybe tonight Doug wouldn’t call.

His phone was low. He had to get his charger. Shit, it was too low the screen displayed a dial then a red battery then the screen went black.

“Fuck!”

He sprinted to his bedroom, but his charger was in his bag in the kitchen. Running back he stubbed his toe. He plugged it in then fumbled it into the port. Itd be like 5 min.

He was nervous what if he called now?
What if he missed it?

“Shit”

He passed some time cleaning the dishes his lower back sweating.

The phone dinged alive.

And he ran over to it hands still wet so it couldn’t open he couldn’t unlock it.

He texted Doug

“Hey did you call!? Phone died.”

No response came.

His message wasn’t read.
