Visiting

Today I visited my grandparents which live about 120 kilometres (per direction) away from me. I haven’t seen them in at least half a year and since my grandmother already got her COVID vaccine, I thought I should be ok.

Although I got my shot a few weeks back (and finally have an appointment for the second one), it it still really risky to visit elderly relatives. As I’ve said my grandmother got both of their Moderna shots already, but my grandfather can’t be vaccinated currently because he is in the middle of a chemo therapy.

I tried to minimise the risk on them by testing myself yesterday at work and not visiting any other person. But I could still be infected. Of course live is risky, but where do you draw the line between risking a visit or risking never seeing them again (because they are in an age where they could die daily anyways)?

I spent a great day at their house and my grandmother cooked even for me. But was it worth risking their lives?
My answer is yes it was probably worth it considering the precautions in place. My grandparents on both sides had passed away before I was even born. I'm glad yours are still around and you have the opportunity to visit them.

I've been thinking about this 'drawing the line' thing as well. I lean more on the side of life having risks but when it comes to seeing family I feel that it's wayyy better to realize the downsides of not seeing your grandpa enough.

Going to the bar probably not as much of an upside for the risks even though the risks are low. In that case I'm prob just making an excuse for why i don't wanna go to the bar lol

Is that a sign of getting old when you are making excuses for why you DON'T want to go to a bar? 🤣

yes. But I don't mind going out to a 'cafe' for a drink. Especially if there's nice scenery and outdoor seating. I guess I just don't like the dark and loud ambiance of the typical bar.

Not going outside to drink expensive coffee is something I'm almost glad for (because it saves a lot of money) :)

"I feel that it's wayyy better to realize the downsides of not seeing your grandpa enough" that's what I thought when I decided to drive to them.
