Drew didn’t think much about his time in Cambridge now. It seemed like a different person, the memories he had seemed like movies he had watched a long time ago.
Not many people he knew now, even knew he had a PhD. Nor would they care likely. It wasn’t like he could do much without his lab you also couldn’t explain it so well. The details to him even became fuzzier.
He remembers most the weather, walking near the river and laying in the grass. All sorts of people you’d meet there.
The reason he left also wasn’t that special. It was idealogical he was mad that people weren’t doing science. More everyone was just writing papers no one would read. But he didn’t do anything about it. He let his visa lapse so they didn’t allow him back.
His boss at the time was mad. They didn’t understand what he was doing to them maybe they thought he was just lazy.
A customer interrupted his thoughts.
“Just these for me.”
He scanned a six pack of coors light and a bag of chips.
“You had these before.”
Drew inspected the bag, Doritos with hot sauce topatios.
“No never, but looks good.”
“There the best, I don’t work for them or nothing but man they’re good.”
Drew made a face in response and nodded.
“That’l be 8.55$ please.”
The guy nodded and gave him ten dollars.
“Keep the change man, you have a good one.”
