And Went

It felt to him briefly like when he was a kid looking out the back window.

His parents were in front talking taking him some where he didn't know. All he did know that they knew what they were doing. He felt safe. He felt like they were always in control when he was this age.

Less now, his parents divorced over his dad shitty choices burst the bubble of trust three years ago. Even worse it was someone he met on a stupid video game website.

Irregardless he felt now like how he felt them, safe enough to day dream. With the book open, he'd read a few lines then look out the window.

Someone watching him would think he was pretending to read. A young guy just trying to pick-up people at the coffee shop. Reading for the show of it.

He liked to think this is what riding a train was like. So little risk you feel safe to stop being aware.

The thought though popped into his mind. His age getting closer to his parents age now. Just four years off really. But realistically only two years off from when they had had him, and one year off when his mom found out she was pregnant.

How could they have known what they were doing? The thought made his cheeks warm. He felt a feeling like he had to leave, so he did. He drank the last of his Mocha, closed his book and went.
