"You eating anything on turkey day."
He started typing, and then erased it.
"hows the turkey."
He again wrote and then deleted.
"Howz it going?"
For some reason or another he stuck with that one. He liked it plain and simple balls in her court he thought.
He thought about saying something about the book, but then just wanted to see what'd she say. Maybe she wouldn't have saved his number. Even though he gave it to her that night. Probably saved it under Howard Phoenix or something to jog her memory. He just had her saved as Ashleigh.
He knew who it was, the only other Ashleigh in his phone was from his 7th grade class. She wore a tie once and everyone made fun of her. She was cool though he thought, they had texted in high school a little. A conversation that never entered the real world.
He checked his phone again nothing. Fuck he thought. He clicked the message looked for delete, but he couldn't it was sent and that was that he thought.
He put his phone down away from himself, and pulled out the book. He tried now to read a few pages. The coffee he had made with his homemade pour over was sitting next to him getting colder. He had the windows open and the sun was up with him.
