a college experience

as reply to Feel Different

There was a gap between lab and philosophy. Long enough that he couldn't go straight to waiting for philosophy idly waiting in the hall. But short enough that he didn't have time to run to the caf for a bite. So he would leave the lab and read out in the center of campus. There was a lot of green, some nice older trees, and a lot of interesting people watching whenever he looked up from the book he was reading.

It wasn't the annoying type of people watching. There weren't too many big groups, most people were either solo or paired with one or two others. Hardly anyone would be speaking loud. Not at this time of day at least. Later on there would be more noise. More larger groups. Hecklers who would antagonize the preacher man who always came and yelled at kids that they were going to hell for all the sins they were committing in these dorm grounds.

This center of campus was what he considered the "college experience". Something you might see out of a movie or read in a book. When he caught up with a lot of his former high school classmates it didn't seem like all, or even many, of them had such an experience. Their college experiences felt more like 'real life'. In fact, thinking about it, he realized that even people at this university didn't have this experience. After all, most of the guys on his floor were still sleeping right now, or were watching Youtube in their underwear in their rooms right now.

"Hey ya there."

He turned around. "Hi, Jack."

"Mind if I sit down next to you?"

"I'd love that actually."
