He’d Rather

as reply to while squinting

He heard the voice of his coach in his ear. His old coach didn’t care so much for excuses he only cared about goals and winning. He always told him to be aggressive that’s how you win. Just be aggressive. Take it all the way home he’d say. Where home was he didn’t really know. But he felt like he had to finish what he started. One way or another. He finished his beer. And walked toward the underground. Or the tube they all called it.

He hated that, how they talked. He probably seemed very slow there. Asking always what or huh.

He’d be glad to be back once he did go. But now he seemed like he’d have to stay. He crossed through the barrier and then started his slow descent. He liked this part, everyone was on the escalator. All faced forward. He always liked to walk no matter what.

Maybe that’s what they all started as doing now. Now the rest of them are zombies. He imagined everyone just trended that way or towards neuroticism. He wasn’t sure which he’d rather.
